implicit 'run' handler

    Does iTunes have such a thing? I want to start/run iTunes (not already running) and then control it from a script (to manipulate some playlists) and I'm wondering whether it would be best to 'activate', 'launch' or 'run'.

    Then I need to wait for it to finish starting up before firing script commands at it. When does an app (e.g. iTunes) start responding to an 'is running' request. Immediately it starts or only once it is able to start accepting other AppleScript commands.

    I'm just looking for the best way to start iTunes and then wait until it can deal with AppleScript commands before sending them. Any other suggestions?
