iTunes -"Unable to check for downloads, connection was lost"

    Hello everyone, I am new to the forums, I searched for my problem, but was unable to find it posted anywhere. My problem is when I use iTunes on my Macbook Pro Laptop to check for downloads, iTunes checks for downloads, but every time I get the message, "Unable to check for downloads ,the Network Connection was lost." I am still connected to my router, and my Cable internet connection is still on,I have no idea what the problem might be. Any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated. Thank You

    Every time, or is this recent? Do you have the OS X firewall turned on in the Security & Privacy preference pane? Do you have third-party firewall or security software? And does your router have a firewall? Those are the most common causes of the problem.
